Gravesend Grammar School
Crofton Design was appointed to carry out the mechanical and electrical services design for a new sports facility building at Gravesend Grammar School for Boys in Kent. The new block was a two story building constructed adjacent to the existing main sports hall and was linked to the sports hall at ground floor level.
The ground floor of the building consisted of predominantly changing rooms and the PE administration office. The first floor consisted of a large multi-purpose activity area, sixth form study area, resistance/weights area and a small servary area. The first floor areas opened out onto a balcony overlooking the rugby fields.
The mechanical and electrical services within the changing areas were designed to be exposed and had to be carefully designed and co-ordinated to ensure that the installation met the requirements, looked aesthetically organised and was durable enough to withstand the harsh environment.
Crofton Design’s Building Services engineers worked in collaboration with other members of the design team to provide a good quality building for the school at an affordable cost.
Crofton Design were subsequently commissioned by the school to investigate electrical power tripping issues on the school site. It was discovered that the three incoming electrical phases were significantly out of balance. Crofton Design provided design and guidance to the school to rectify the issues.
