Imperial College

Following the appointment as M&E framework partner to Imperial College, Crofton has undertaken numerous projects across their various London campuses.
Projects have been diverse both in complexity and type, ranging from the fit-out of complex laboratories to the feasibility design for a major remodeling of the Fleming Museum at the St Mary’s Hospital site.

Aside from the usual engineering considerations, our experience in liaising with numerous stakeholders has led to the development of management strategies and the implementation of streamlined processes to avoid problems associated with potentially conflicting aspirations from the various stakeholders involved in the project.

For example, building management service design has previously been a challenge for Imperial College. We have instigated a series of liaison meetings between various stakeholders, including facilities managers and end users to discuss each project at its outset, in order to ensure the design is appropriate for each project. This has led to savings of up to 40% on costs and this process has been adopted for all framework partners.

Zoe Mulholland, Projects and Frameworks Manager at Imperial College commented;

“Winning the only M&E consultant place, (Crofton Design) beat off much larger competitors by demonstrating solid engineering experience, low turnover of staff and commitment to working with a partnering ethos. They have been a breath of fresh air, bringing a proactive approach to design solutions, and never afraid to get stuck into the more ‘challenging’ jobs.  An area we have been particularly impressed with is the quality of their detailed design coordination, something which has frequently caused problems in the past.  In a recent scheme they were employed by the contractor to continue the detailed design post contract, demonstrating their advanced engineering skills.”
