St Anthony's Primary School

The redevelopment of St Anthony’s Primary School, commissioned by the Diocese with funding from Southwark Council, is being undertaken to expand the existing 1.5 Form-Entry to a 2 Form-Entry school. This will increase the school’s capacity from 324 children (plus 44 nursery and 42 staff) to 420 children (plus 46 nursery and 46 staff).

Crofton has been appointed by Architype, architect and lead consultant on the project, to provide detailed building services design for the redevelopment. Our brief is to provide passive and low energy solutions to the refurbishment works and to endeavour to meet and exceed current building benchmarks in relation to energy.

Four additional, larger classrooms will be constructed as part of a new single storey block, along with an improved entrance to guide visitors into the site, a new hall extension into the playground.

In addition, the existing building thermal and acoustic performance will be upgraded by re-cladding the external envelope, replacing the doors and windows along with the installation of new building services systems.

Crofton’s scheme includes innovative solutions, such as:

  • Use of Phase Change to increase the thermal mass of the timber frame building
  • Use of Passive House insulation levels
  • Use of innovative insulation to increase building decrement factor (e.g. Offsetting Solar Gains)
  • Solar Hot Water Heating
  • MVHR ventilation for reducing CO2 levels in classroom
