Excellence in Engineering

University Work Placements

Crofton has offered undergraduate internships since its inception in 2000.

These internships usually range from 6-12 months, allowing undergraduates the opportunity to sample life as an engineer in their chosen discipline; contributing to projects and expanding their industry knowledge.
Many placement students return to the company to work full-time once they have graduated.

Alison Fulford, Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate, University of Edinburgh (2013)

“I’m currently studying for a Masters in mechanical engineering with a focus on renewable energies up at the University of Edinburgh. As part of my degree I have the opportunity to spend 6 months in industry, which I am spending at Crofton’s London office. It’s a great insight into the actual everyday engineering and the industry in general, the office is really friendly and I immediately felt part of the team. Building services is a new industry for me and the work so far has been very diverse, across different disciplines and undertaking many aspects of a real Building Services Engineers role - experience you can’t achieve in the class room.”

Jack Powell, Structural Undergraduate, Nottingham Trent University (2010 – 2011)

“Whilst working for Crofton, I’ve been involved with a variety of projects including education and residential. One aspect of structural engineering I particularly enjoy is designing entire domestic extensions by myself, from roof to foundations. I have also enjoyed designing more civil based aspects like below ground drainage. It’s been an invaluable experience.”

Ruth Osborne, Placements Officer Nottingham Trent University

“Nottingham Trent University students have undertaken placements with Crofton Design over a number of years. Feedback has been very positive, as students report they have had a productive and enjoyable experience with the company. Crofton Design cultivates lasting relationships with our students, and some have returned as permanent employees after graduation.”
